On Disco Fling
Disco Fling is a very unexpected success for me. When I
presented it to my label, I was terrified! I had it in the back of my head that
they would go, “Katy that’s lovely, but we’re pushing for a different sound.”
Luckily, we were on the same wavelength! I am getting so much support. It went
top 20 which I am absolutely thrilled about! I’m performing it next week on
Jimmy Fallon. I’m kinda anxious, but super excited at the same time. Guess I’ll
have to rehearse it to perfection!
On the Disco Fling music
video
The Disco Fling video is extremely cute! It was directed by this
extremely talented director, Matthew Cullen. His vision and mine just meshed so
well. We wanted the video to be quite humorous and filled to the brim with
Clichés. I think it’s so important to have a laugh, especially nowadays. We’re
so serious lately! Anyway, I’m so proud of the video. I hope people enjoy it
even more than I do (laughs)
On Can’t Read You
Can’t Read You can definitely be considered a personal
track. I mean if we’re to get abstract, all my songs are personal to me cause I
put all of my heart and soul into them, but from a critical stance, I can see
why people consider it more personal than Disco Fling. I wrote it about a relationship
in which we had awful communication. I could never read what he wanted, and now
that I think about it, he probably couldn’t read me either. But even though I
had no idea what he wanted, I was still madly in love with him. It’s just a twisted
feeling.
On her album
The album is more or less done. It needs a few finishing
touches. I’d love to tell you when it’ll come out, but I personally don’t know.
However, it will be soon. I’m really proud of my work so far. I’ve worked with
so many talented people that helped me achieve my vision. I’ve got Alesso, Max
Martin, Stargate, Duke Dumont and many many more on the album. Dumont produced
by upcoming single “Body” featuring Ariana Grande and Cardi B. It’s a really fun
track and I can’t wait for all of you to hear it. The album also features
collaborations with Charli XCX and Zara Larsson. All female collabs! We don’t
see enough of those.
On what she’s
listening to
I’m absolutely obsessed with Charlie Puth’s single with
Ariana. They sound AMAZING on it. On repeat 24/7! I also love Zara Larsson’s
song “All Night.” An absolute banger, I hope I get to party with her soon! I’ve
also really been digging Tinashe. Her work is beautiful. She just came out of
nowhere and is snatching left, right and centre!
