On Disco Fling Music Video

The music video for Disco Fling was so fun to shoot! We rented out a nightclub for two days. The owner thought we were mad because we forgot to specify that it’s for a music video first. (laughs) Well, I’m really proud of it. It’s fun, colourful and a bit ditzy. I think we all need some comic relief in our lives, and there isn’t enough of that in music videos. Lately the music videos have been embellished with so much artistry and meaning, which is phenomenal to see! But for me there always has to be a space for something more colourful and light-hearted.

On Encore

Encore is just growing every single day. Its exponential growth is really something to look forward to. I love physical music as much as the next person, but I also love having my phone with me and sticking on a record anywhere I like. I’m making food? I put on music. I’m showering? I put on music. It’s just so handy. We always hear that streaming might be the downfall of the industry, but how can that be when it connects a person to music in a way that’s never really been done before? I fully support it.

On Album

My upcoming album is in the process of being finalised. At the moment, it’s just a lot of devising strategies and planning. I have to adapt this album to the current music scene, so we’re not really rushing. It’s just about throwing out a whole lot of questions and seeing if we can come up with reasonable conclusions, like how will we get people to listen to a dance record in 2018? How will we handle the singles? It’s just a lot of brainstorming. I have a basic outline done, and I can assure you that new music is coming soon. On that note, I must also inform you about something. Ariana, Cardi & I have been teasing a new song “Body.” Due to my new plans for the album campaign and recent scheduling conflicts, we’ve decided to hold onto it for a while. It was a completely mutual decision that I hope our fans can respect! But rest assured, you’ll hear it one day, and there’ll be new music coming straight to you soon!

On future plans and twitter beef.

This week I’m leaving the US for a while, right after I’m done watching the super bowl that is! I want to go visit my fans in Asia and Europe. I’ve heard that Disco Fling is quite popular in Asia, so I want to go and thank my babies there. As for Europe, we’re coming for you (laughs) Twitter beef? Personally, I wouldn’t really want to air my dirty laundry on twitter. It all could’ve been avoided with an actual conversation in private. But in fairness, once you’re on this platform and have as many followers as we do, it’s so easy to forget that everything you say will be put under the microscope and blown up disproportionately. I do hope that the parties involved will put it behind them soon!
