Hello and welcome everybody! Today we’re here with the stunning Katy Perry, who has just touched down from the UK. Welcome to Australia Katy!
Thank you, I’m so happy to be here!
We saw your Glastonbury set on Caltube, it was amazing! How did you feel about the performance?
It was an absolutely amazing experience. Festivals are so fun because they’re short, sweet but highly energetic. There was a lot of dancing, singing, laughing, it was great!
We’re loving the songs you debuted, especially Can’t Read You!
Thank you! You know it was so difficult to pick songs to debut from an album that hasn’t been released yet, whenever you pick a single you have to consider how it represents your album. Can’t Read You was a good choice I think, because while it’s in a similar vein to Disco Fling, it also has a bit of substance to it.
Definitely! Can you tell us about the song and Disco Fling?
I wrote Can’t Read You when I was dealing with a difficult relationship and it wasn’t always easy for us to communicate. Relationship might be too strong a term now that I think of it (laughs) Let’s just say we had a thing and we didn’t really know where that thing was going. At first the uncertainty is cool, but then you begin to grow anxious. It’s in many ways the antithesis to Disco Fling, which celebrates the idea that you don’t know what you’re in for.
Awesome. Disco Fling is growing in the US and UK, and I don’t doubt that Australia will follow soon. Do you have anything planned to push it further?
I have a few things up my sleeve, but it is definitely a slow process. I want to take my time with these songs, because there is no need whatsoever to rush. I’m planning some promotion, I’m working on a video, which is almost finished by the way! At the moment I’m just testing the waters and seeing what comes my way.
How well does Disco Fling represent the album?
Pretty well I think! It’s a really fun, upbeat body of work. I have a few bad-ass collaborations on it, which I’m so excited to share. Overall, the album is just big. Yeah, that’s how I’d describe it. Big!
We believe you and we can’t wait! What are you listening to at the moment?
I’m listening to a lot of Ariana Grande, Charli XCX and Lindsay. Their music makes me feel so empowered, and they’re all so incredibly talented. Hope we get to hit the studio together someday (laughs)
Now that would truly be bad-ass!
It would.
Now that we’re on the topic of collaborations, what do you think of the latest feud between Halsey and Christina?
I don’t want to get too involved, my opinion doesn’t really matter on this. However, I think it’s good that they’re talking it out, and while it may be through a series of heated tweets, there is some communication. Quiet feuds are often the most dangerous. I just hope that they manage to reach a common ground and that’s that on that!
Very diplomatic! To end on a positive note, what message have you got for your fans?
I just want my fans to know that I am so grateful for their support. It means the world to me. I hope that my music has given them, us, good memories and conversations. I hope that my music makes them feel safe, happy and true to themselves. I love you all dearly!
Thank you so much Katy. We hope you enjoy your stay here and now we’re going to play “Disco Fling” and “Can’t Read You!” Stay tuned.
