Welcome everybody, I’m Jimmy Fallon and today we have special guest Katy Perry here with us. Katy has recently got her first top 20 hit, “Disco Fling,” and the song shows no sign of stopping! Tell us Katy, how does it feel to have your first single perform so well?

It’s extraordinary. You know when we first recorded the song, I was so elated. I loved how it sounded. However, on the other hand, I was slightly worried!

How come?

I just didn’t know how it would perform. I was scared of my label saying, “Katy that’s cute, but that’s NOT the sound that’s sticking at the moment.” Luckily, they were just as enthusiastic as me and have been ever so supportive.

Do you have any more plans for the single?

I’m performing it on X-Factor next week, which I’m highly excited about! We also dropped a remix last night by Initial Talk, so please check it out! It’s always fun to see someone else’s take on the song. I’m also focused on promoting the music video at the moment!

The Music Video is very funny! How did that come about?

We recorded it with a very talented Director, Mathew Cullen. He saw exactly what I saw so we got on amazingly! I thought It was important to have a silly video for Disco Fling. We’re so serious nowadays, we need to laugh more!

It looked like it was fun to record!

It really was a blast! A lot of things that happened were really spontaneous. Cullen literally said “You guys all have different personalities assigned, so just do what they would do!” It was very fun. We spent like 2 days recording, it was very exhausting but so worth it!

Aside from Disco Fling, you also put out a track called “Can’t Read You,” tell me a little about that one. I love it!

I love it too! I think that it’s a really cute track. I wrote it about a relationship where very little communication occurred. It’s very personal to me. I love that I can drop a carefree banger like Disco Fling, and then just weeks later release something that hits much closer to home.

Would you consider your upcoming album personal?

Of course! Obviously a lot of the tracks are very fun and shouldn’t be taken too literally, but there are a lot of gems on there!

What can you tell us about it?

Well it’s almost there. I know that’s such a vague response, but most of the stuff on my part is done. Now we just need to get through formalities and other official business before we can drop it. I’d describe it as a big pop album. I’ve worked with many talented producers and artists. I have all female collaborations. These include Charli XCX, Zara Larsson and of course Ariana Grande & Cardi B which feature on my next single!

Is the single in question “Body?”

Indeed! Body is a really fun dance track. We got Ariana and Cardi on it and the things we did were just amazing. It should be out soon enough!

Any artists to look out for?

Troian’s latest song “Lemon” is so good. She’s a breath of fresh air and I love the message she preaches. I also love Kelly Clarkson’s latest single, I’m obsessed! Obviously Tinashe too. There’s just too many!
