Katy Perry on Kiss FM 99.3
By Katy Perry - February 15, 2018

Hello and welcome everybody. I’m Jackie Nelson and today I
am interviewing the lovely Katy Perry, who has just dropped a new single “Disco
Fling.” Katy, the name of the song is so ill-fitting! This is more like a beautiful
marriage!
On Disco Fling
To me, Disco Fling is a about enjoying the small things in
life. Too often are we caught up in a whirlwind of life’s events that we forget
the small things that really sculpt us. This one is really simply about finding
someone attractive. We always pass people by, and some catch our eyes more than
others. You have a tiny little connection there, and I wanted to celebrate
that! I couldn’t write a traditional love song, because with regard to my specific
encounter, no love ever happened. I’m happy that many people relate to that,
because let’s face it: A love story isn’t the be all and end all of life.
On Glatsonbury
I’m performing there soon and I am super excited! I get to
perform 5-6 songs, so I’m really not overworking myself. That’s why I aim to
give my audience the best audio-visual experience I can! We’ll have more
dance-oriented songs in place, to stay true to my current work. There will
definitely be a new song or two, and a few remixes of my older songs! Stage-wise,
I’ll do the best that I can to keep it entertaining. Given that it’s a festival,
there’s a whole lot of limits. But the best things are always made out of
nothing!
On Empowerment
On Empowerment
A lot of my work is very empowering. I want both women and
men feeling strong and confident when they listen to my music. I think that
these messages are so important in songs, because sometimes we don’t have someone
to turn to, but most commonly, we don’t want to turn to anyone. If you stick on
a song, nobody has to know what you’re listening to or what it means to you. I
want to share my message to women and men, that you’re all valuable. And no
matter that shit you go through, you can always break the mould. If my lyrics
remind you just that once how special you are, then I will continue to push
messages like that. My upcoming album has a few of those.
On Working with other
artists
Certainly, in this industry, you’ll work an artist in one way
or another. They don’t have to directly feature on your song, they might help
to write it or even simply inspire it. I’ve worked with a few artists on my upcoming
record, and I’m so proud of our collaborative effort. I’m open to working with
anyone who’ll have me, like if Lana or Maluma called me right now I’d dash!
(laughs) Well obviously I’d finish the interview first cause I’m not that rude.
On the future
My schedule is always hectic! After my Glatsonbury performance,
I’ll be visiting Australia to promote Disco Fling. I’m super excited, we have
lots of stuff planned. But further on from that, it’s a little bit hazy. But I’ll
be taking my time, and making the most of this era as I can.
